August 13, 1924 - December 14, 2016Agnes E. Nelsen, age 92, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at the North Lake Manor in Storm Lake.
A daughter of Andrew and Maren (Larsen) Thompson, Agnes Emma was born on August 13, 1924, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Baptized as an infant at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and later confirmed there as well in 1936, Agnes attended Longfellow School and graduated in 1942 from Abraham Lincoln High School, all at Council Bluffs. Next, she continued her education at the Jenny Edmundson Hospital where she served as a Cadet Nurse through the government during World War II. She graduated in 1945 to begin her career as a registered nurse. In 1947, she married Edward Alexius Nelsen, Jr. Subsequently, they were blessed with five children: Tana, Diane, Thomas, Christine, and Brian. A faithful member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Agnes enjoyed making quilts at the church and participating in the Circle.
In her free time, Agnes liked sewing teddy bears and other stuffed animals, sewing clothes for porcelain dolls, and baking cookies and treats for her grandkids. Indeed, she sent many a “care package” to those family members away from home. Her kind heart and gentle spirit will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Tana (John) Doyen, Diane (Dennis) McHugh, Thomas (Julie) Nelsen, Christine (Barry) Allison, and Brian (Cheryl) Nelsen; her grandchildren: Brielle, Britton (Kerstin), and Seth Allison; Amy (Travis) Clay; Johanna Combest; Sean, Steven, and Susan Doyen; Amanda Dreher; Sondra (Jeff) Garton; Bryce and Tristan Hettinger; Holden (Kelly) and Soren (Julia) Jubb; Alan (Nancy) and William (Chris) McHugh; Edward and Elizabeth Nelsen; Jessica (Nick) Rich; and Shanole (Chris) Stein; her great grandchildren: Eli and Matt Allison; Hudson and Jadyn Annis; Lyn Buenting; Colby and Mara Clay; Andrew, Brandi, and Caitlin Combest; Dameon, Kevin, and Tasha Doyen; Evan Garton; Amelia Jubb; Lexi Kirkegaard; Jackalyn, Julia, and William McHugh, Jr.; Alizabeth and Charlotte Rich; Cayla Schuetz; and Auckland and Sydney Stein; her great-great grandchildren: Hunter Addisson and Thomas Hepler; and her sister: Betty (Charles) Stockham; as well as extended family members and friends.
