Father Daniel C. Lynch
March 11, 1924 - November 29, 2016

Father Daniel Charles Lynch, age 92, of Sac City, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at the Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City.

A son of Daniel Lynch and Ellen (Hughes) Lynch, Father Lynch was born on March 11, 1924, at Larchwood, Iowa. He attended St. Mary’s Grade and High School in Larchwood, graduating in 1941. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the pre-divinity program at Trinity College, Sioux City. Then, the bishop of Sioux City, the Most Rev. Edmond Heelan, assigned him to graduate theology studies at St. Paul’s Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Daniel was ordained a priest of the Sioux City Diocese by Bishop Joseph Mueller, auxiliary bishop, on June 6, 1948. He offered his first Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Larchwood, on June 11, 1948. His assignments during his active priestly ministry from 1948 until he retired in July, 1994, included:

*Associate pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Fonda

*Associate pastor of St. Michael’s Church, Whittemore, Iowa

*Teacher of religion, spiritual director and athletic director at Heelan High School, Sioux City

*Pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, Barnum, while also serving as assistant principal of St. Edmond’s High School, Fort Dodge

*Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Ashton, and superintendent of the St. Joseph’s School

*Pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and superintendent of Our Lady of Good Counsel Grade and High School, Fonda

*Pastor of St. Mary’s Church and superintendent of St. Mary’s Grade and High School, Storm Lake

*Pastor of St. Mary’s Church, Sac City.

After earning a master’s degree in education from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., Father Lynch was awarded a superintendent’s certificate by the Iowa State Department of Education. In addition, he served for four years as state chaplain of the Catholic Order of Foresters and two years as state chaplain of the Fourth-Degree Order of the Knights of Columbus. He had become a member of the K of C while attending the major seminary at St. Paul in 1947. Moreover, throughout his career, he served several terms on the Sioux City diocesan priests’ council as an elected member and later as an appointee of Bishop Lawrence Soens. He, also, was for several years a member of the Board of Diocesan consulters. After retiring, Father Lynch, greatly, enjoyed his home, gardening, golfing with friends, reading, and writing. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Mary and Dorothy.

Service: Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Storm Lake, Iowa.

Visitation: Thursday, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sac City, Iowa. Vigil 7:00 p.m. with KC Rosary following.

Friday, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Storm Lake, Iowa. Vigil 7:00 p.m. with KC Rosary following.
