William Earl Gutel
November 8, 1921 ~ November 29, 2016William Earl Gutel, age 95, of Storm Lake, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Welcov Assisted Living of Alta.
Earl was born on November 8, 1921, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to William T. and Bessie (Andrews) Gutel. After attending school at Truesdale, he became a lifelong farmer. On March 21, 1943, he married Marjorie Bonnichsen of Alta. They began farming together north of Storm Lake. Subsequently, they had two children, Victoria Lee and David Earl. In 2008, they celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary. Except for three years, Earl spent his entire life on the family farm north of Storm Lake, shelling corn, doing custom baling, and raising livestock. He loved horses among other animals and tilling the soil.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Victoria Olson, of Spencer, Iowa; his son, David (Linda) Gutel, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandchildren, D. Scott (Karin) Olson, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Brian Olson, of Laurens, Iowa, Amy (Dave) Huebner, of Hawarden, Iowa, Heather (Andres) Torres, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Brent Gutel, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his great-grandchildren: Levi and Luke Huebner; Addison, Emma, Jayden, Thaddeus, Theanna, and Theron Olson; and Andy and Henry Torres.
William Earl was preceded in death by his parents, William T. and Bessie Gutel; his wife, Marjorie Bonnichsen Gutel; his brother-in-law, Vance Bonnichsen; his sister-in-law, Rebecca Bonnichsen, and his son-in-law, Leland Olson.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church of Alta with the Pastor Kim A. Dewey officiating. Burial will follow at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery of Storm Lake. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
