Ralph H. Radke
July 27, 1922 ~ March 15, 2016

Ralph Herman, a son of Carl and Anna (Hustedt) Radke, was born in Alta on July 27, 1922. Baptized on August 13, 1922, and confirmed on July 5, 1936, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, he attended school in Galva, graduating in 1941. Ralph farmed northeast of Galva. On January 26, 1947, he married Selma “Sally” Frahm at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cushing. To this union, four children were born: Dennis, Jacquelyn, James, and David. Ralph and Sally farmed until 1983 when they moved to Storm Lake. He enjoyed working summers for the City of Storm Lake parks department. In 1993, they moved to their home in Galva.

Ralph had many interests throughout the years. He loved working with animals. For several years, he and Sally helped deliver Meals on Wheels in the Galva area. A longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva, he worked on its construction and completion in 1949. As a voting member at St. John’s, he served as trustee for several years. In later years, after he had retired from farming, he, avidly, read agricultural publications. In short, Ralph devoted his life to his faith, his family, agriculture. In recognition of their dedication to the community, he and Sally were honored in 2007 to serve as king and queen for Galva’s 125th anniversary celebration.

Ralph is survived by his children, Dennis Radke, of Cherokee, Iowa, Jacquelyn (Raymond) Franz, of Schaller, Iowa, James (Kathryn) Radke, of Clarion, Iowa, and David (Janda) Radke, of Galva, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Clint, Chanda, Kristine, Debra, Rebecca, Nathan, Seth, and Samuel; six great-grandchildren; his niece, Karen (Joseph) Casey, of Chanhassen, Minnesota; his sister-in-law, Betty (Dick) Christiansen, of Newell, Iowa; his brother-in-law, James Frahm, of Marshalltown, Iowa; and his sister-in-law, Joann Frahm of Galva, Iowa; as well as by many extended family members and friends.

Ralph was preceded in death by Sally, his wife of sixty-eight years; his parents; his sister, Lydia Lehmann, and Orville; an infant brother; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.
