Willis Harlan Lussman, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Willis was born on April 24, 1930, in Grant Township, Buena Vista County, Iowa, to Edward and Anna (Mohr) Lussman. Baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake on May 18, 1930, and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake on June 18, 1944, he attended grade school in Grant Township and high school at Providence Consolidated at Sulphur Springs, Iowa, graduating in 1947.

Willis entered Military Service on August 7, 1951, and was honorably discharged on August 5, 1953. On September 8, 1952, he married Lorna Gerke. Three children, Wesley, Wanda, and Wayne, were born to their union of 64 years.

A longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Willis served for many years as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, and elder. He spent his entire life on the farm in partnership with Lorna, working side by side for thirty-four of those years in the dairy business. As A.S.C.S. Township and County Committeeman, he enjoyed working with farmers. As a Charter Member of the Hart Parr Oliver Collectors Association, he spent a lot of time collecting, restoring, and showing old Hart Parr and Oliver tractors in addition to spending many years working with the Albert City, Iowa, Threshermen. Indeed, for nine years, he served as a board member of that organization. Willis, also, enjoyed traveling. During one memorable trip to Germany, for example, he visited the original Lussman Farm and slept in his grandfather’s bed. Moreover, they made many trips to see their children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lorna Lussman, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Wesley (Jean) Lussman, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Wanda Cady, of Albert City, Iowa, and Wayne (Rita) Lussman, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; his grandchildren: Melinda (Doug) Moore, of Edmond, Oklahoma, James (special friend, Lisa, and children, Jaxson and Ava), of Woodinville, Washington, and Mason (Stephanie) Cady, of Albert City, Iowa; his great grandchildren: Ethan, Landon, and Charlotte Moor, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Aiden and Brynlee Cady, of Albert City, Iowa; and his sister, Arta (John) Harman, of Corydon, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Willis was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Anna Lussman; his brothers, Darwin (Joanne) and Harold (Esther) Lussman; and his sisters-in-law, Neoma (Eldo) Bartels and Loraine (Darvin) Harth.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.
