Dorothe Cavanaugh
March 27, 1921 - September 13, 2016

Dorothe Cavanaugh, age 95, of Franklin, Tennessee, formerly of Newell, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at The Hearth in Franklin.

A graduate of St. John’s Grade School and Joliet Township High School, Dorothe met her husband, Cecil, at the Globe Corporation in Joliet, Illinois, where he worked as a welder making target gliders and she as a secretary for the supervising Lieutenant Colonel. After they had married and moved to Sulfur Springs, they purchased their home in Newell, Iowa.

In her younger years, Dorothe worked as a secretary for the Newell Creamery and the Superintendent of the Newell-Providence High School. Then, she worked as a teller at the First National Bank in Newell. She spent the remainder of her life as a dedicated housewife, mother, and grandmother. A devout Catholic with a devotion to Mary, she will be remembered for her culinary delights and as an avid golf and bridge player.

Her survivors include her children, Tom (Donna) Cavanaugh, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Corrine (Dan) McCormick, of Franklin, Tennessee, and Jim (Lorri) Cavanaugh, of Plano, Texas; her grandchildren: Stacie (Lance) Mullen, of Crestwood, Kentucky, Ross (Kaley) Lyons, of Franklin, Tennessee, Matthew Cavanaugh, of Denton, Texas, Jason Cavanaugh, of Plano, Texas; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil B. Cavanaugh; her infant daughter, Jan; her parents, John and Mary (née Goestel) Schauer; four sisters, Marie Kramer, Bernadine Hoffmeyer, and Cecelia and Bertha Schauer; and three brothers, John, Joseph, and George in infancy.

A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa, with entombment following at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Mary's Catholic School. Visitation will take place Friday, September 16, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 6:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home, 321 S. Fulton St., Newell, Iowa.
