October 20, 1937 - July 5, 2016Daryl Dean Schade, age 78, of Newell, Iowa, died on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at the Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, Iowa.
A son of Henry and Freida (Kreft) Schade, Daryl was born on October 20, 1937, in Calhoun County Iowa.
Baptized as an infant at St. Peter’s Coon Valley Township in Lytton and confirmed in his faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City in 1952, Daryl attended grade school at Williams #9 in Calhoun County. After graduating from Lytton High School in 1956, he continued his education at the Sioux City Barber College in Sioux City, Iowa, where he graduated in 1961. He, then, began his 55-year career as a barber. In 1954, he entered the United States Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 1964.
On March 3, 1960, Daryl married Glenda Rohde at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Jackson, Minnesota. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children: Dean Douglas and Renea Kay. An active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, he participated in the Men’s Club.
A member of the Northwest Iowa Quarter Horse Association, Daryl loved raising, training, and showing Quarter horses. He enjoyed trail rides and cattle roundups in Wyoming. In addition, he was a talented leather crafter. Most of all, however, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Glenda Schade, of Newell, Iowa; his children: Dean (Carol) Schade, of Johnston, Iowa, and Renea (Bill) Kuhn, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his grandchildren: Taylor Kuhn, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Samuel Schade, of Johnston, Iowa, and Sarah Schade, of Johnston, Iowa; his brothers: Harlan (Lorraine) Schade, of Sac City, Iowa, and Norman (Marilyn) Schade, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his sisters: Marva Fleshman, of Sac City, Iowa, Diane (James) Fenlon, of Omaha, Nebraska, Darla Samuels, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Susan Schutterle, of Geddes, South Dakota; his step grandchildren: Jenni Evans, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Will (Kristen) Kuhn, of Asheville, North Carolina, and Brooke (Travis) String, of Texas; six step great grandchildren: Brady Evans; Sawyer and Reese Kuhn; and T.J., Jack, and Adam String; and his brothers-in-law: Tony (Kay) LaMalfa, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Robert (Jann) Rohde, of Centennial, Colorado; as well as many nieces, nephews; extended family members, and friends. Daryl was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kay LaMalfa.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 8, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Wall Lake Cemetery in Wall Lake. Visitation will take place Thursday, July 7, 2016, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Point Hospice, Grace Lutheran Church, or the Equine Harmony Center, 5540 CO-86, Franktown, Colorado 80116. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
