STORM LAKE PILOT - Wed, Feb 22, 1888 - Died at his home in Storm Lake Friday Feb 17th, 1888, P.L. Surdam, aged 77 years and 22 days.
Peter Lyman Surdam was born in Rensaler county, NY Jan 26th, 1811. He lived in that state until 1865 when he moved to Chicago, IL; later he lived a number of years in Iroquois county from whence he came to Storm Lake in 1881, when he has since lived in our midst.
The deceased, when he came to Storm Lake, he found no church of his choice and has worshiped with the congregationalists. Thus we are called upon to record the death of one full of years, of one who had nearly reached his allotted four score. In his life he had very little sickness, until two weeks ago he was taken with a pain in his foot, which proved to be erysipelas and which was his summons to come up higher. His record in this life is made and we can safely say that he has many friends and no enemies.
He leaves behind a wife and three children, the latter grown and to them comes the comfort of the assurance that he who sees the end from the beginning "doeth all things well" and that he "is our refuge, an ever present help in time of trouble."
The funeral occurred from the residence Sunday morning.
- Mrs F.J. Brown and E.L. Surdam were present at the death and funeral of their father last week.
