STORM LAKE BUENA VISTA VIDETTE - Fri, Mar 17, 1911 - Another pioneer settler of this county has been called to the Beyond. Without a word of warning the Death Angel came and took with him Sunday evening, John Strock, Sr, at the age of 76 years and 10 months.
He had not been ailing, in fact had been down town only the day before. Sunday before supper he laid down on his bed for a short rest and when he was called, it was found that he was dead, a stroke of paralysis being the immediate cause of the death.
John Strock was born near Madgeberg, Germany in 1834 and was married in 1864 to Christina Badwin. In 1879 he and his wife and children came to Illinois where they resided for 8 years when they came to Buena Vista county where they resided on the homestead here.
Of the four children born to them, three with his wife preceded him, leaving but one, his son, John Jr who upon the death of his elder brother came from Washington, where he had been making his home and has since four years lived on the home place. The daughter and mother followed the eldest son.
The funeral was held at the home Wednesday afternoon and interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery where he was placed to rest beside the body of his wife.
Mr Strock has been a familiar figure about town in a way he seemed very active though he has been broken in health for some time.
He leaves besides his son, 8 grandchildren to mourn him.
