STORM LAKE PILOT TRIBUNE - Thu, Mar 9, 1933 - Loren Stock, popular Storm Lake young man, died at the Swallum hospital Sunday afternoon at 5, at the age of almost 24 years. Death was due to complications resulting from serious injuries received in an airplane crash in Kansas City a year ago last November.

Loren, who took up aviation in Kansas City and received his pilot license there, had been flying for about 4 months. He had 120 hours of solo flying to his credit. He had started for Iowa in his plane, which he had purchased in Oklahoma 4 months before. he had a passenger, George McKee, 25. Fog forced them to turn back shortly after starting on the trip and the plane struck the top of a flag pole in Swope's park at Kansas City and crashed. McKee was killed instantly and Loren suffered a fractured skull and other serious injuries.

For 22 weeks after the accident Loren was confined in the general hospital at Kansas City in a critical condition. He was then taken to southern Missouri where he spent a month, after which he was brought to the home of his father, W.G. Stock in Storm Lake. After about 6 weeks he was taken to the home of his mother, Mrs Dena Stock near Marathon.

On Feb 11 he entered the Swallum hospital where death occurred. During his long illness everything possible was done in hopes that he might recover.

Loren G Stock was born in Storm Lake on March 21, 1909. He attended the local schools until about 14 years of age when he moved with his mother and sister and brother to Grinnell, where he was graduated from high school. From that place the family moved to Newton after which he attended Iowa State college at Ames one year and the University of Iowa at Iowa City for a year and a half. He then went to Kansas City, where he took up aviation.
