STORM LAKE PILOT TRIBUNE - Thu, Oct 10, 1929 - Mrs H.H. Steffen, a resident of Storm Lake for the past 48 years, passed away at the home of her son, Walter Steffen, 709 Otsego street, Tuesday evening Oct 8 at about 10. She had been ill for only a very short time.
Mrs Steffen was nearly 75 years of age. In her younger days she was active in many community affairs.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at Lakeside Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery.
Marie Klessig was born in Cleveland, Sheboygan Co, WI Jan 24, 1855. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs August Klessig. She grew to young womanhood and received her education in the schools there.
April 10, 1881 she was married to H.H. Steffen. Directly after their marriage they moved to Storm Lake where Mr Steffens brother, Will, was in the shoe business. Mr Steffen entered partnership with his brother.
Five children were born to Mr and Mrs Steffen: Mrs W.D. VanDeMark of Sioux City; Walter of Storm Lake; Edwin, who is head of the agricultural department in the State college at Pullman, WA; Rudolph of Sioux City; and C.A. of Storm Lake.
She is survived by her husband and five children; 8 grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs Minnie Rein of Green Bay, WI and Mrs Emma Reinhold of Cleveland, WI; and three brothers: Max Klessig of ND, and Otto and Leo Klessig of Wisconsin.
