Henry M. Nelson
November 9, 1925 - June 3, 2016

Henry M. Nelson, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, June 3, 2016, under the care of Unity Point Hospice in Storm Lake.

A son of Olaf and Gina (Nicoline) Nelson, Henry was born on November 9, 1925, in Arnegard, North Dakota. His family, later, moved to Spring Grove, Minnesota, where he attended school, graduating in 1943. On June 10, 1943, he joined the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged on November 14, 1946. Then, on November 26, 1950, he married Arlene Vanderby at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with six children: Harlan, Dennis, Donna, Steven, Richard, and Eric. Henry was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. After working for years in the feed industry, he ventured out to begin his own business, Nelson’s Premix & Vet Supply, a longstanding business in the Storm Lake area.

His favorite pastimes included gardening, gambling, and celebrating the 4th of July. In addition, he, especially, enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs. Most of all, however, as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he cherished the time he could spend with his family and will, indeed, be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Harlan (Virginia) Nelson, of Flagstaff, Arizona, Dennis Nelson, of Cape Coral, Florida, Donna Nelson, of Carson City, Nevada, Steven Nelson, of Overland Park, Kansas, and Eric (Nancy) Nelson, of Pella, Iowa; his grandchildren: Angelica Nelson, of Prescott, Arizona, Jenifer Browning, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Shaun Kennedy, of Carson City, Nevada, Henry Nelson, of Overland Park, Kansas, Paige Schmit, of West Des Moines, Iowa, Tanna Nelson, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Samuel Nelson, of Ankeny, Iowa, Andrew Wright, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Shannon Wright, of Iowa City, Iowa; and his great grandchildren, Annie and Molly Schmit, of West Des Moines, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene; his son, Richard Nelson; his brothers: Edwin, Delbert, and Odin Nelson; and his sister, Doris Nelson.
