Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Thu, May 12, 1927 - Death entered four Storm Lake homes within the past few days and called three men and one boy, whose brave fight for life has been the admiration of the community for months. The boy was Robert Schafer, 13 year old son of Mr and Mrs John Schafer, 218 Lake Avenue, who passed away at 11 last night from an injury to the head received when a little boy and from which he never recovered.
Robert George, the only child of Mr and Mrs John Shafer, passed away at the home of his parents Wednesday May 11, at the age of 13 years.
For many weeks parents, physicians, nurses, relatives and neighbors have united in an effort that only love and skill could suggest to give the little lad comfort and strength in his suffering. For years the skill of the best physicians and surgeons have vainly endeavored to bring the child health and comfort. Although constantly battling with recurring illness Robert remained a sweet, happy uncomplaining cheer for all about him. A faithful little student, he had entered the fifth grade in the public schools. He clung to his school texts long after he was unable to attend his classes.
In the bereavement the stricken family have the sympathy of all who knew them. Aside from his parents, his grandfather, Henry Schafer of Schaller, and his grandmother, Mrs W.G. Young of Storm Lake, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins are left lonely without him.
Funeral services will be held at Lakeside Presbyterian church Friday. Pall bearers are to be Robert's cousins: Elmer Sweet, Roy, Alvin and Chester Hatch and his friends: Lloyd Taylor and Milo Pedersen.
