STORM LAKE PILOT TRIBUNE - Dec 23, 1926 - While the world is observing the glad season, Christmas will not be merry in some of the homes of Storm Lake. For this week, the death angel called Charles A. Peterson long time resident.

Charles August Peterson, Storm Lake ice dealer for many years, passed away very suddenly at his home Tuesday afternoon, December 21, following a stroke of paralysis. His death came as a great shock to relatives and many friends. A couple of hours before his death, Mr. and Mrs. Peterson were up town doing some Christmas shopping. At that time he talked to many of his friends and seemed in his usual health. On their way home they met their son, John, who took them the rest of the way in his car.

Mr. Peterson accompanied him to the office of the ice house where he stayed for a time. He ate his lunch and did not complain. He passed away about 1:30 o'clock very suddenly at his home, just after he had been talking to Sam Cutts. Although Mr. Peterson suffered for many years from diabetes he did not often complain and always had a pleasant word of greeting for his friends.

Funeral services are being held this afternoon, Thursday, from the home at 2 o'clock and from the Methodist church at 2:30. Rev. O.M. Bond, pastor of the Methodist church will have charge of the services. Bearers are old time friends of Mr. Peterson and business men of Storm Lake. They are: Chris Jorgensen, August Dlugosch, J.K. Buland, J.A. Schmitz, Theo. Marten, and W.L. Geisinger. Music will be furnished by the Methodist quartet composed of Mrs. Ralph Sheffield, Miss Helen Banghart and Prof. Aylesworth and Robert Richardson. The body will be laid to rest in the local Lake View cemetery.

Mr. Peterson was in the ice business in Storm Lake for 44 years and last year sold out to this son, John. He purchased the business from James Toy after he had been in Mr Toy's employ for a couple of years. For 39 years he conducted the business for himself. During the latter years his son, John was connected with him.

Charles August Peterson was born in Sweden Feb 28, 1863. While a young man in 1880 he came to American. He resided at Chicago for 6 months and then came directly to Storm Lake where he has since resided. For a time he worked on a farm and then was employed by Mr Toy.

He was united in marriage March 26, 1887 to Miss Carrie Anderson in Storm Lake. One son John was born to this union.

Besides his wife and son, he leaves to mourn his daughter-in-law, Mrs John Peterson and one brother Paul Peterson of Columbus, MT. The brother was unable to be here for the funeral because of ill health.

Mrs Erick Larson and daughter, Mrs Frances Jahan of Chicago, sister and niece of Mrs Peterson, and Mr and Mrs Chas Anderson of Cherokee, will be in attendance at the funeral.
