STORM LAKE REGISTER - Jan 14, 1941 - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Peelman, 84 years old, pioneer mother, and well-known in Sac and Buena Vista county were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Hughes Funeral home. Mrs Peelman died suddenly Friday morning. She was stricken with a heart attack while on a mission of neighborliness to the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Jennie Fanning on Seneca street.

Dr. Joseph F. Hutchinson, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated at the service Mrs. H.E. Farnsworth sang, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and "Abide With Me," accompanied by Mrs. L.C. Olney. Bearers were nephews, George Fanning of Gilmore City; Floyd Fanning, Art Lemmertz, Grant Sease and Will Whitimore, all of Nemaha and Seymour F Tatman of Storm Lake. Interment was beside her parents in the Storm Lake cemetery.

Mary Louisa Fanning, daughter of Edmond Seymour and Hannah Fanning, was born July 15, 1856, near Zumbro Falls, Washaba county, Minn., being the first white child born in that county. In 1871 the family moved to the farm in Sac county, now known as the Ed Fanning farm. She received her education in the rural schools in Minnesota and Sac county later teaching in Sac county.

On April 4, 1875, she was married to John W Peelman. Mr. and Mrs. Peelman were the parents of four sons and five daughters, all of whom survive. Thirty grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren are also left to mourn. There has never been a death among the children or grandchildren.

Mrs Peelman united with the Methodist church at an early age and was a devoted member. She took an active part in its activities as long as her health permitted and they meant much to her. As a pioneer mother of Sac county, she was always interested in the affairs of her community. Her keen interest in her family, friends and community was manifest even to the time of her death.

After their pioneer experiences in Sac county, the Peelman family lived for several years on a homestead in North Dakota and Mrs. Peelman was often called to serve in nearby homes as a practical nurse. Later they moved to Havre, Mont., where they resided until the children had gone to establish homes of their own.

After the death of Mr. Peelman in 1924 at Havre, Mont., Mrs. Peelman made her home with her children dividing her time largely between the homes of her three daughters, Mrs Ella Evans of Lawrenceville, Ill; Eva, Mrs. Fred Deppe of Storm Lake; and her youngest daughter, Marjorie, Mrs. George Jacobson of Owatonna, Minn.

Mrs. Peelman was the sister of the late Dell Fanning of Storm Lake also of James and Edmond Fanning of Nemaha.

One sister, Mrs. Etta Bailey of Elk River, Minn., survives. Mrs. William Strebelow of Storm Lake was reared as a sister of Mrs. Peelman's in the Fanning home.

Surviving children are: Mrs. F.A. Deppe, Storm Lake; George A. Peelman, Poplar, Mont.; Mrs. Ella Evans, Lawrenceville, IL.; Mrs. O.E. Hendricks, Cotton, Oregon; Ellsworth Peelman, Burt, Mich.; Ray E. Peelman, Poplar, Mont.; Mrs Claude Beller, Victor, Mont; Mrs George Jacobson, Owatonna, Minn., and Howard Peelman of Havre, Mont.

Among those from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. George Jacobson and son, Judd, Owatonna, Minn.; Mrs. Ella Evans, Lawrence, IL: Franklin Evans, Strawberry Point, Mr and Mrs. Elsworth Peelman and Mr and Mrs. Russell Peelman, Burt, Mich.; George and Ray Peelman, Poplar, Mont.; Mrs. Fred Jacobs, Elk River, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. George Fanning and family, Gilmore City; Leo Fanning, Rolfe; Mr and Mrs. Grant Sease and family, Mr. and Mrs. Will Whitmore, Mr and Mrs. Lyle Iehls, Mr and Mrs. Art Lemmertz, Ed Fanning and son, Floyd, Miss Ella Fanning, Mr. and Mrs. Will Fanning and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Milton Olson, all of Nemaha; Mrs. Mable Fanning, Sac City; Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Strong, Bronson; and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ryhard of Britt.
