Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Aug 11, 1927 - Mrs E.L. O'Banion, pioneer resident of this city, passed away at her home, 416 Otsego street, Sunday Aug 7. Mrs O'Banion had been ill and was confined to her bed for several months. Her death will be greatly mourned by many old time friends as well as by the relatives.
Fannie A Leavitt was born at Gilmanton, NH, August 14, 1847. Had she lived one more week, she would have rounded out four score years. She was educated in the country school of her neighborhood, Gilmanton Academy, and at Boston, MA, preparing herself for the vocation of teaching. Her career as a teacher lasted for 10 years, five of which were spent at Gilmanton Academy and 5 at Mason City, IL.
It was at Mason City, IL that she met and married E.L. O'Banion, the ceremony taking place at Decatur, IL March 4, 1873. They began housekeeping on a farm near Weldon, IL and in 1878 moved to Buena Vista county, locating on a farm four miles northeast of Storm Lake where with her husband, she experience the hardships incident to pioneer life in those days on the farm.
Mrs O'Banion was the devoted mother of 8 children, all of whom are living except Guy, the first born, who died of diphtheria at the age of nine years.
The living are Wilbur of Baltimore, MD; Josie G or Mrs B.H. Coonradt of Cherokee; Walter of Canton, SD; Dr Archie L of Santa Barbara, CA; Florence or Mrs T.P. Waite of Storm Lake; Prof Allen C of Park Rapids, MN; and Earl L of Sioux City. These children with 13 grandchildren, and her husband, E.L. O'Banion, remain to mourn the loss of one whose love was greatly cherished and with whom her pleasant memory will linger long.
Funeral services were held at the O'Banion home, 416 Otsego street, Thursday Aug 11.
