Lucile was born on July 10, 1919, in Nemaha to Benjamin Samuel and Ola Moss Howie.
After graduating from Fonda Public School in 1936, she attended Buena Vista College for one year (1936-1937) before completing her studies at the Madam Kennedy Beauty School (1937-1938).
On December 5, 1942, she married Eugene Stanley Cochran. Subsequently, they had two sons, Milton Arthur and Dale Eugene. Eugene, regrettably, passed away in August, 1978.
Lucile worked in beauty shops in Fonda, Nemaha, and at Turner’s in Storm Lake until 1969. Then, she worked as a secretary at the Stanton Electric Shop until she retired in 1990.
The family moved to Casino in 1949 and then Lakeside in 1950. In June of 2013, Lucile sold the lake house where they had lived in Lakeside most of their adult lives. While the boys were growing up, the family fished and hunted for years. After the boys had graduated from college, Gene and Lucile toured the country while visiting Milton and Dale on opposite sides of the country and enjoying their grandchildren. Whereas Milton and Mary live in Landenberg, Pennsylvania, Dale and Beverly live in Littleton, Colorado. Milton and Mary have two daughters, Abigail and Laura. Abby and her husband live in Port Orchard, Washington, and have three children, and Laura and her husband, also, live in Port Orchard. Dale and Beverly, for their part, have two daughters as well, Stephanie and Christa. Stephanie and her husband live in Napa, California, and have three children. Christa and her husband, on the other hand, live in Alexandria, Virginia.
In addition to visiting their children and grandchildren, Lucile and Gene spent many weekends flying to pancake breakfasts, first in their Cesena 140 and then in their Tri-Pacer. Moreover, after Gene passed away, Lucile took advantage of opportunities to travel to Africa, Norway, Great Britain, Scotland, Ireland, France, and Italy.
A member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association, the Senior Citizens’ Site Council, the First Presbyterian Church, the Delphian Club, and Eastern Star, Lucile, forever, remained busy with volunteer work.
