Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - September 20, 1932 - W.C. Metcalf of Mitchell, S.D. former well known Storm Lake businessman, and a brother of L.J. Metcalf and Mrs. J.P. Morey died in the hospital at Mitchell Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, after an illness of some time.

Mr. Metcalf had been in ill health for several years, and for some time had been in the hospital. L.J. Metcalf and his son Roy Metcalf, of Atlantic, had visited him a number of times during recent weeks and were with him when death came. The body was brought to Storm Lake Sunday and was taken to the Hughes Funeral chapel. It remained there until Monday, when it was taken to the L.J. Metcalf home, 226 Geneseo street.

Funeral services were held from the L.J. Metcalf home Monday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock. The Rev Edward L. Gibson, pastor of Lakeside Presbyterian church, officiated. Interment was in the Metcalf family lot in the local cemetery.

On January 1, 1889 he was united in marriage to Helen Louise Crocker. To this union two children were born: they are Louise, who is librarian in the juvenile library at Long beach, California and Robert Metcalf, a clothier at Evanston, Illinois.

Mrs Metcalf passed away 8 years ago.

The children had been with their father for several weeks, returning to their homes only last week.

Besides the daughter and son, he leaves one brother L.J. Metcalf of Storm Lake; three sisters, Mrs Melvin Rogers of Oakland, Calif, Mrs. Sam McFarland of Evanston, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Morey of Storm Lake, and other relatives and countless friends. Mr Metcalf was well known in Storm Lake and also at Mitchell and had hosts of friends who mourn his death.

Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gamble of Jefferson, Mr and Mrs. Roy H. Metcalf of Atlantic, Mrs. George Hicks of Cherokee and Dr and Mrs. M.A. Armstrong of Newell.
