STORM LAKE REGISTER - Feb 22, 1938 - With the passing of Amiel Joray, Storm Lake losses another of its pioneers. Mr. Joray passed away at his home early Friday morning after a lingering illness.
Taking an active part in community affairs he was a member of the original fire department and the first band of Storm Lake. He was always among those who sought to better his city.
Devoting his life to carpentry, Mr Joray assisted in the erection of the finest buildings in Storm lake including the building of the Buena Vista county court house, North School, Buena Vista college, and the Catholic church.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Hughes funeral home with Rev. W.J. Robinson officiating. The firemen attended the service in a body. Bearers were Frank Hughes, Joe Hughes, Geo. Mack, Ernest Stanley, Pete Bram and Scott Farnsworth. Interment was in the local cemetery.
Amiel Marcell Joray was born in Amenia, N.Y., in May 24, 1858. He came to Storm Lake in April, 1872. On Dec. 24, 1878 he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Hughes. To this union 11 children were born.
He is survived by his widow, two sons, Guy of Glendale, Calif., and Sterling of Aurora, IL; two brothers, Joe of Mineral Point, Wis., and Henry of Kansas City.
Two brothers, Frank and Oscar, and one sister, Seraphine, preceded him in death.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. James Pink and Mr. and Mrs. Don Pink of Fort Dodge, Bert Hughes of Sheldon, Joseph Joray of Mineral Point, Wis., and Sterling Joray ot Aurora, IL.
