Storm Lake Register - May 17, 1949 - Raymond A Martz, son of Francis and Amy Martz, was born Feb 8, 1899 at West Plains, MO. He passed away at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines on May 12, 1949 at the age of 50 years and 3 months.

He served with the famous Rainbow Division during WW I. He was wounded in action and earned the right to wear the "Purple Heart."

Most of his life was spent on a farm near Sulphur Springs. He was member of the Presbyterian church there. Since 1939 he has been working with a Des Moines company as a construction engineer.

He was preceded in death by his three sisters and two brothers. One brother George, was killed in action during WW I. The other brother Albert, passed away only a few days ago, on May 1.

He leaves to mourn his passing one brother, Ernest of Storm Lake, and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Sunday afternoon from the Hughes Funeral home. The American Legion was in charge of the military services at the grave in the Storm Lake cemetery.
