June 23, 1911 - Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - Elizabeth Jane Martz, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Martz, died early Sunday morning at the hospital, after an illness of less than a week.

She was taken ill last Tuesday with what proved to be appendicitis and Saturday she was brought to Storm Lake and Dr. Herman and another specialist from Sioux City sent for who performed the operation immediately after their arrival. The doctor's verdict here before the operation was that there would be but a very small chance for recovery as it was supposed that the appendix had broken, but no possible chance wanted to be overlooked by the anxious parents and so the specialists were sent for and every thing possible done to save the life so dear. But in vain, Sunday morning the spirit left the pain racked body.

Elizabeth Jane Martz was born in Hayes township in 1893, July 10, and would have been eighteen years old next month. She leaves in addition to her parents, five brothers: Bert, Ernest, Fred, George and Raymond and one sister, Mrs. George Blakely.

She was of a merry disposition and was the life and center of the home from which she has been taken and friend of the entire community in which she lived. The funeral services were held Monday in the Lakeside church, Rev. Felix Ross, conducting the same. She was a member of the Sulphur Springs church of which he is pastor.

The body was laid to rest in the Storm Lake cemetery. The mass of beautiful flowers told of the regard in which she was held. It is hard to realize that in one short week one so full of life and happiness should be sleeping under the sod to await the last call. Words of sympathy are doubly hard to express to the bereaved ones. They were given this companionship for a short time and sometime it will be known why the life should have been so brief.
