December 3, 1920 - Storm Lake Register - Mrs. Amy Martz, a resident of this city and of Buena Vista county for many years and well known and highly esteemed in the community, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George F. Bleakley, early Tuesday morning, after an illness of about four weeks.

Her death is learned with sorrow by all who knew her. Mrs. Martz suffered a slight paralytic stroke about two years ago, having never fully recovered from the effects of it. Upon learning of the death of her son, in France, during the war, Mrs. Martz continued to fail and for the past several weeks had been under the care of a nurse. Everything possible was done in hopes that she might regain her health, but she passed peacefully away early Tuesday morning.

Mrs. Amy Harriet Ivy Jack was born in England, in 1857. At the age of 19 years, she and an older sister came to this country, settling first in Illinois, where she was married to Francis Martz in 1879.

To this union were born eight children five of whom survive They are Albert Martz, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Mrs. George F Bleakley, Ernest Martz, and Raymond Martz of Storm Lake; and Fred Martz, of Binghampton, New York.

For the past 36 years, Mrs. Martz has made her home in Iowa, the greater part of which time was spent on a farm near Sulphur Springs. After the death of her husband she moved to Storm Lake, where she has since resided. About 25 years ago Mrs Martz with some of the children united with the Pilgrim Presbyterian church of Hayes township and later with the Sulphur Springs Presbyterian church where she was much loved as a Sunday school teacher. During the past five years, she has made her home in Storm Lake and was a faithful member of the Lakeside Presbyterian church.

In addition to her children, she leaves behind her, one sister, Mrs. George Bloomfield, of England, nine grandchildren, and hosts of friends. Mrs. Martz was a devoted wife and mother, a friend to all, and was loved by all who knew her. Her death will be mourned by all.

Funeral services were held in the Lakeside church, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev Donald M. Grant, D.D., assisted by the Rev. Mr. Holden, a longtime friend of the family. Interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery. The members of the Service Star Legion, of which Mrs. Martz was a member, attended in a body. The floral offerings were very beautiful. A gold star, made of yellow chrysanthemums was presented by the Service Star Legion, American Legion, and W S D Chapter.
