Manchester, Ida Velma 1868-1943

March 30, 1943 - Storm Lake Register - Mrs. W.H. Manchester, esteemed resident of Storm Lake for 37 years, passed away Saturday morning about 4:30 at her home, 203 Geneseo street. Although Mrs. Manchester had been in declining health for the past year, in recent weeks she seemed to be improving, and her death, which resulted from a heart attack, came as a shock to her family and friends.

Funeral services are being held this Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Manchester home. Dr Edward L. Gibson, pastor of Lakeside Presbyterian church is officiating. Mrs. Morton J. Hughes is singing "Face to Face" and "Rock of Ages." Burial will be beside her son, Laurence, in the Storm Lake cemetery. Bearers are: George Hix, Walter Hix, Edgar Ballou, Harold Holmes, Frank Lamoreaux, and E.H. McGill.

Ida Velma Greene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wyer Greene, was born in Portland, Maine. When she was 20 months old her mother died and she made her home with her grandparents at South Windham, Maine. When she was 10 years old, her father remarried and she returned to his home in Portland. She was educated in the Portland Seminary for Girls and after her graduation was employed as bookkeeper in her father's shoe store.

A short time later, Ida Velma Greene met William Horace Manchester and after their engagement, he decided to come west, locating in Omaha, Nebr., where their marriage took place. In 1905 they moved to Storm Lake where they have since continuously lived.

Mrs. Manchester's interests centered in the family circle which was a most happy home. She was a helpful companion to her husband and a devoted mother. Not only will she be greatly missed by her family but by countless friends. Mrs. Manchester affiliated with Lakeside Presbyterian church and was a member of the Friendly guild. She was also a member of several social clubs. With her charming personality she made and held friends easily.

She leaves to mourn a bereft husband, one son, William Horace of Chicago, Ill; one daughter, Ella Manchester Deiters, who has been her constant companion through her illness and death; a grandson, William Lawrence Manchester; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Short Manchester, and a son-in-law, John Deiters, all of Chicago; one sister, Mrs. A.E. Rubery of Toronto, Ontario, Can., and a brother, Laurence H. Greene, of Portland, Maine, also survive.

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Laurence, her parents and an aunt, Mrs. Charley Colby, of Windham, Maine
