May 11, 1923 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - L.G. Malbone, one of Buena Vista County's oldest and best known residents, passed away at his home Tuesday May 8th about 2:30 o'clock a.m. Mr Malbone had not been well for the past few weeks. He never recovered from the flu, which he had early in the winter.

L.G. Malbone was born near Columbus, Ohio Oct 14th, 1848. He came overland with his parents to Fort Dodge in 1864. He saw the first train on the Illinois Central railroad come into Fort Dodge.

In 1873 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Stanton and moved to Storm Lake the same year. To this union two children were born, Mrs Geo D. Daniels of this city and a daughter Myrtle who died in 1904.

Mr Malbone was active in all city affairs. He served on the city council for several terms and also as park commissioner. Mr Eastman and Mr Malbone had the honor of planting the first evergreen trees put in Tourist park at the time the auditorium was built. He was city marshall and street commissioner when Lake Shore Drive was graded.

He served a term as deputy sheriff, was on the school board for several years, and also on the library board. He was a member of Storm Lake's first band and an active member of the Fire company since it organization, serving as Forman a number of years. He joined the I.O.O.F. lodge fifty years ago and was P.G. and P.C.P. of that order and was a representative to the Grand Lodge for two terms. Mr. Malbone was a good citizen and will be missed.

He leaves to mourn his wife and his daughter, Mrs. George D. Daniels, four grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Presbyterian church. Rev. T.A. Ambler will have charge of the services and the Odd Fellows and Fire Company will attend the services in a body.
