Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - Nov 20, 1903 - Mrs Mary A Lucas died Sunday evening at 10 of neuralgia of the heart at the age of 83 years, 10 months, and 17 days.

Mary McClency was born Dec 29, 1819 near Milesburg, PA. In 1838 she was united in marriage to Bennett Lucas. In February 1866 they moved to Mason county, IL where they lived until 1882 when they moved to Storm Lake. In February 1891 Mr Lucas died after which deceased made her home with her youngest son, E.O. Lucas of this city.

She was the mother of 13 children, three of whom died in infancy. Ten, 7 boys and 3 girls, grew to manhood and womanhood. Four still live: Eliza J Lucas of Brooksville, PA; Mary A Shop of Milesburg, PA; T.M. Lucas of Alta; and E.O. Lucas of this city.

Three of the sons served their country in the Civil War, one dying on the battle field. A brother, Thomas M McClency of Portland, Oregon and sister Mrs Katherine Reese of West Virginia also survive.

Mrs Lucas enjoyed comparatively excellent health the last few years. A week ago Sunday she was taken ill with heart trouble. Wednesday she seemed to be improving and at the end of the week appeared as well as usual. About a quarter of 10 Sunday evening she was taken with a severe pain in the side and 15 minutes later she died.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon. The body was laid to rest in the Storm Lake cemetery.
