Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Oct 31, 1929 - Mrs Rebekah A Lockwood, one of the best known and most highly esteemed residents of Storm Lake for 30 years, passed away at the hospital Tuesday morning, Oct 29. Mrs Lockwood had been in poor health for about 5 years and had been bedridden since the first of July. Her eye sight failed a number of years ago and along with her other illness made her suffering very severe.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church this afternoon (Thursday) at 2:30 in charge of Rev Bond. The body was laid to rest in the Storm Lake cemetery. Mrs Lockwood was a faithful member of the Methodist church and was a faithful attendant until her health began to fail. Mrs Lockwood was a loving and dutiful mother, a kind neighbor and was loved by all who knew her.
Rebekah A Day was born in St Lawrence county, New York, March 23, 1845 and at the time of her death was 84 years, 7 months, and 6 days old. She received her education and grew to young womanhood in that vicinity and was married there to Eli Lockwood, July 22, 1863.
Four children were born to Mr and Mrs Lockwood and they survive. They are Mrs Clara Bemis and Mrs Minnie A Eckhardt of Storm Lake; Mrs Esther D Williamson of Long Beach, CA; and Dr Ira H Lockwood of Kansas City, MO. Besides her children, Mrs Lockwood is survived by one brother, Wm L Day of St Lawrence county, NY and 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
In March 1873, 56 years ago, Mr and Mrs Lockwood and their family moved to Iowa and located in the Early vicinity. Later in the year 1899 they moved to Storm Lake and in the fall of 1899 they moved in to the present Lockwood home on Oneida street. Mr Lockwood passed away Sept 22, 1904.
Dr and Mrs Ira H Lockwood arrived Wednesday morning and the son-in-law, John Williamson, was expected to arrive Thursday from Redfield, SD.
