Storm Lake Register - July 18, 1933 - Storm Lake is shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of Raymond A Jones, life time resident of this city which occurred at his home on West 5th street Monday night.
Death was due to a fall caused by a slippery rug in the bedroom as he arose Sunday morning. Major Jones, who for some weeks has been employed in Reconstruction Finance Corp. work, came from Sioux City Saturday night to spend Sunday with Mrs Jones and their son, Robert, a student at the state university but who is home for the summer.
Sunday morning Mrs Jones had arisen to prepare breakfast and was in the kitchen. Robert was in the yard. Mr Jones upon arising was chatting with Mrs Jones as she was preparing to dress. Robert heard the conversation and entered the house a moment later to discover his father stretched upon the floor with his head on one of the bed coasters. He was helpless but conscious.
"I fell on the rug and struck my head on the bed," he explained.
Robert called his mother. They summoned Dr Smith and later Dr Max Armstrong of Newell, brother-in-law of Mrs Jones. Investigation disclosed a fracture at the base of the skull resulting in partial paralysis. Mr Jones was conscious at times Sunday but grew worse Monday and slept away as the shades of night descended.
Funeral services will be held at Lakeside Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon. Schaeffer post American Legion of which Major Jones was commander will be in charge. Bearers will be Legion members.
