Storm Lake Register - March 17, 1927 - Mrs Orville James, one of Storm Lakes earliest settlers and a most beloved woman, died at her home, 609 Cayuga street, last Saturday night at about 11, following an illness of some time.

Mrs James had been in failing health for about 5 years, but was able to be up and around the house until about two weeks prior to her death.

Mary Louise Hanks, daughter of William and Margaret Hanks, was born at Monroeville, Huron county, Ohio August 3rd, 1841 and died at her home in Storm Lake on Saturday, March 12th, at the age of 35 years, 7 months, and 9 days.

She grew to young womanhood and received her education in the schools in Ohio. Feb 22nd, 1872 she was united in marriage to Mr Orville James, a civil war veteran and to this union one daughter was born, the child dying in infancy.

Immediately after their marriage, Mr and Mrs James and Mrs James parents and brothers and sisters, came to Iowa locating in Storm Lake and with the exception of two years spent in Ohio, Mr and Mrs James have since resided in and near Storm Lake.

She leaves to mourn her death, her aged husband, and one sister, Mrs C.H. Scott of Pittsburg, PA, who is past 80 years of age and who was unable to attend the funeral on account of ill health; a niece, Mrs Charles Spooner of Storm Lake; and other nieces and nephews; a great niece, Mrs J.A. Williams of Rochester, MN; and other relatives.

Her parents and 5 brothers and 5 sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon and interment was in the family lot at the local cemetery.
