Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - January 25, 1907 - After an illness of but 8 days Owen O Hughes died at 2:30 on Monday afternoon at the home of his brother, John J in this city at the age of about 51 years. Mr Hughes was out at his farm in Grant township until last Saturday, when he began to feel sick and came to town, taking to his bed from which he never arose. His death came as a distinct shock to many who did not know of his illness.

Owen O Hughes was born in Wales Feb 24, 1844 and came to America in 1871. In the spring of 1881 he came to Storm Lake where he has since resided. During his long residence in this city he has made a host of friends who have long been convinced of his honesty, integrity and general straightforwardness.

The funeral was held from the house at 2 and from the Lakeside church at 2:30 on Wednesday afternoon. Interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.

Mr Hughes was one of 18 children of who, John J Hughes of this city, is the only one still alive and the parents are also dead.
