October 6, 1911 - Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - Charity Jane Hills was born in Ohio in 1839 and married Joseph R. Hills in 1861. Eleven children were born of this union three of whom died in infancy, one unnamed and two boys, Hiram and Harvey.
In June 1892 the father died and four of the children having reached manhood and womanhood also preceded the mother. They were Marcia Ann Hill who died at the age of 17; Bennie Garfield who died when 15; Henry Clayton who met death in the lake here when 28 years of age and Delia Conrad who died a few years ago at the age of 32.
Those who survive their mother are Mrs. M.F. Toohey of Fort Dodge, Mrs. Thomas Homer of Britten, S.D., and George W. Hill and Joe R. Hill of this city.
Mrs. Hill had spent part of last winter with her daughters but this winter she had decided to keep house for herself and had her home all prepared in the east part of town. Her granddaughter from Fort Dodge had spent a couple of weeks with her and had assisted her.
September 17, Mrs. Hill accompanied her granddaughter to Fort Dodge for a visit. She was complaining of not feeling very well and Thursday she spent part of the day in bed. Her daughter became worried and sent for the two boys from here who went down Thursday. Pneumonia had set in and Friday morning at three o'clock she passed away.
The body was prepared for burial and brought the same day to the home of her son Joe, here. The funeral was held here Sunday at the Christian church. Rev. Place of the Baptist church assisted by Prof. Warren Ingold conducted the services. The body was laid to rest in the Storm Lake cemetery by the side of her loved ones who had gone before.
Her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Homer, was delayed and did not arrive here until Monday morning. Mrs. Hill was a sincere Christian and a true friend. Her life was full of good deeds and kindness toward those with whom she came in daily contact. The sympathy of the community is extended to the sons and daughters who are left to mourn a good mother.
