Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - January 14, 1926 - Word of the tragic death of Donald Hill, son of Mrs Donald Hill of this city, reached here Sunday. Don was killed when an automobile in which he and several others were riding upset in a ditch in Elmwood Park, a suburb of Chicago, early Sunday morning. His neck was broken and it is thought he was instantly killed.

The sympathy of the entire city goes out to the Hill family in their sad bereavement, especially to the sisters and brother who fear to tell their mother of the sad tragedy because of her serious illness, feeling that the shock of his sudden death would also result in her death. Mrs Hill has been bedfast for several months.

One particularly sad feature of the tragedy is that Donald had expected to be wed in June to Miss Alma Hallowell of Lincoln, NE. Miss Hallowell visited here last summer and has many friends. She came to Storm Lake to attend the funeral. Don was well known in this community where he was raised. He was always popular.

The body was brought to Storm Lake Wednesday morning and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church. Interment was in the local cemetery.

Donald Hill was born in Storm Lake Nov 17, 1895. He attended the Storm Lake public schools and graduated with the class of 1914. From that time until the year of 1917 he worked as a reporter for the Pilot Tribune.

In 1917 he enlisted in the Army. He was supply sergeant in Co E, 150th Infantry, 88t Division. He received his training at Camp Dodge. August 11, 1918 he sailed from New York on H.M.S. Delts and landed in London Aug 23. He did some training and was in the front lines of Haute-Alsace sector from Oct 6 to Nov 2 ... He landed in New York June 5, 1919. He was mustered out July 15, 1919.

Since his arrival home, he has been a traveling salesman with headquarters in Sioux City for 3 years and the last two years in Pittsburg. In Sept 1925 he took a position as salesman for the Berry Bros. Paint and Varnish Co of Detroit, MI with Iowa territory. He had been attending a salesman's convention at Detroit, Jan 4 and was on his return from there that the accident occurred.

He leaves to mourn: his mother, 5 sisters: Misses Mary, Agnes, Margaret, Eunice, all of this city and Mrs H.W. Lahr of Fort Dodge; one brother, Alfred of this city. Miss Eunice Hill is deputy county treasurer.
