Storm Lake Register - November 16, 1922 - William Harris, one of the pioneer residents of Storm Lake and well known and highly esteemed through out the community passed away at his home in Sioux City Saturday Nov 4, at 10:30, of acute cardiac dilation and his death was learned with sorrow by numerous friends in this city.

His illness was of a brief duration, he having been up and eaten a light lunch the day of his death. He visited in Storm Lake only a short time ago and seemed in his usual health. Mr Harris was in business here for many years and took an active interest in all affairs for the promotion and growth of the city.

William Harris was born Sept 19, 1840 at Samden, O. His parents having died when he was only 3 years of age, he was adopted by old friends of the family. He came to Iowa at an early date coming to Buena Vista county in May 1870, before the town of Storm Lake had been permanently located. He did much to promote the growth of this town and conducted several lines of business of which the principal ones were a meat market and drug store, the drug store being conducted until April 20, 1906 at which time he sold out to G.M. Triplett.

After retiring from the drug business he took up a homestead in Pennington county, near Wall, S.D., where he and his wife and daughters spent several years, after which time they returned to Storm Lake and spending a few years here, they moved to Sioux City in 1917, where he has since made his home until the time of his death.

He was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Smith on April 8, 1870 in Galena, IL. To this union were born four children, one son, Ethan, having died in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Irving, residing near Marysville, CA and two daughters, Anna and Eva of Sioux City.

Funeral services were held in Sioux City Monday Nov 8 at the Samuels Chapel and at the First Presbyterian church. The body was accompanied to Storm Lake by the 3 children and taken to the Fiscus undertaking parlors. Short funeral services were held at the grave Saturday Nov 11 and interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.
