Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - February 11, 1932 - Wesley Groom, for many years a resident of Storm Lake and Buena Vista county, died at his home here Saturday evening at the age of 63 years. Death followed a paralytic stroke.

Funeral services were held from the First Church of Christ Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. B.H. Coonradt of Cherokee, assisted by Rev. E.H. Johnson. Burial was in the local cemetery. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of L.O. Thomas, W.H. Kaufman, Mrs. C.R. Galfin and Mrs. H.E. Farnsworth with Mrs. Paul Price at the piano. Miss Wanda Halderman also sang a solo. Bearers were E.W. Oates, M.D. Grimes, C.R. Gaflin, H.C. Samuels, L.O. Kline and George C. Mack.

Wesley Gurney was born August 8, 1868 at Cassville, Grant county, Wis. He lived in Wisconsin until later when he moved with his parents to Storm Lake, locating on a farm in Maple Valley township. He resided there until 1924, when he moved to Storm Lake.

On April 12, 1905, he was united in marriage to Anna Thelka Haake at Sioux Falls, S.D.

Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn: one sister, Mrs. Oscar Reppen, of Newell, S.D.; a brother, Archie Groom, of Arnolds Park; two nephews Ray Pettit of Newell, S.D. and Ralph Groom, of Arnolds Park; an uncle, Art Groom, of Blue Earth, Minn., and other relatives and countless friends.

Mr. Groom became a member of the local Church of Christ under the ministry of M.H. Kendall about 34 years ago and remained a consistent and faithful member until his death. From December, 1927, until September 1931, Mr. and Mrs. Groom had their residence in Norwood, Mo., but their membership remained in the First Church of Christ at Storm Lake. Mr. Groom was well known and held in highest regard by all who knew him.
