Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - February 2, 1917 - Priscilla Gurney was born in Yoxford, England, September 6, 1838. She came to America with her parents in 1858.

She was married to W.E. Groom September 18, 1861. They moved to Iowa and settled in Maple Valley Township in 1876, where they continued to reside until 1894 when they moved to Storm Lake where they have since made their home. Her husband died in 1896.

Four children were born to them, George W who died in infancy; Mrs Mary E Petit, of Sioux Falls, S.D; Wesley G and Archie L who reside in Storm Lake.

She also leaves two grandchildren: Ray Petit of Newell, and Ralph Groom of Storm Lake; and one brother, James Gurney of Cassville, Wisconsin. She has been a member of the church since she was 12 years of age.

She died January 28, 1917, aged 77 years. She was of a quiet disposition, faithful to her home, fond in her devotion to her family, and her life adorned the Gospel which saved her in childhood and supported her in her departure.

Those attending the funeral services from out of town were as following: Mrs M.E. Eckert, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; W.A. Burrows, Dows, Iowa; Mr George Gurney and Lincoln Gurney of Alta, Iowa; Mr and Mrs. Otto Schroeder, Sherburne, Minn; Mr and Mrs F.A. Catterrnole, Washta, Iowa; Mrs J.E. Crowley, Schaller, Iowa; and Miss Edna Groom, Sioux City, Iowa.
