Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - November 29, 1912 - After an illness of less than thirty minutes, John Gran died at the family home just at the west of town at ten o'clock last Saturday morning, November 22. While he had not been sick he had been suffering from indigestion at different times for the past two years and just a few days previous had consulted a physician concerning it. He had been up and around the house as usual that morning and seemed to be as well as usual, when the sudden summons came.

John Gran was born at East Jutland, Sweden May 10, 1846. He remained in his native country until 1871, when he came to America, locating at Attica, Ind., where after a short residence he moved to Moline, IL. On July 22, 1873 he was married to Lena Florine and to this union eleven children have been born, all of whom are living.

They are Miss Emma Gran, at home; Mrs. Hannah Best of Chicago; Oscar Gran at Minneapolis; Edward C. Gran of Milford; Mrs. Anna Cameron of Chicago; Mrs. Nellie Jackson of this city; Emil Gran of Coal Springs, S.D.; Albert Gran, who has been a student at the state university for the past two years; Rudolph, Florence, and Mabel at home. Oscar, of Minneapolis, was the only member of the the family who was unable to be present at the funeral.

In 1879, the family moved to this county, locating on a farm north of Alta which was their home until 1900, when they moved to Storm Lake.

The deceased was a kind husband and indulgent father; a man of exemplary habits and one who enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all with whom he came in contact. During his long residence in this county, he firmly established himself as a man whose word was as good as his bond, and a friend in
every time of need.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church at 2:30 on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. T.A. Ambler, assisted by the Rev. D.A. McBurney. Interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.

A large concourse of sorrowing friends gathered to pay their last tribute of respect. This newspaper joins in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
