E. C. (Pee Wee) Rogers
March 5, 1926 - March 30, 2016

Elwyn Charles "Pee Wee" Rogers, a son of Charles and Etta Estella Rogers, was born on March 5, 1926, in Newell, Iowa. He spent his childhood in Newell where he received his education. After graduating from Newell High School, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy as a storekeeper during World War II from June, 1944, until his honorable discharge in July, 1946.

Shortly after a "love at first sight" blind date, Pee Wee married Aletharae "Rae" Thomas on February 24, 1947 in Webb, Iowa. Following their wedding, they farmed for a few years before purchasing a grocery store in Webb, Iowa, which they operated for nearly forty years before they retired. During these years, they, also, owned and operated a grocery store in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Pee Wee had a love for horses and raised several different breeds along with mules on his acreage near Webb. After he retired, he became an expert at buying, selling, and collecting pottery and stoneware from all over the United States. For twenty years, he and Rae wintered in Ft. Myers, Florida, making many new friends that they kept in touch with over the years.

Pee Wee passed away at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa, on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Vickie Rogers; a son-in-law, Ron Sanculi; a brother, Olin; and two sisters, Vera and Mary Evelyn.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rae, of Spencer; a daughter, Rae Lynn Sanculi, of Ruthven, Iowa; two sons, Lee (Trang) Rogers, of Lewisville, Texas, and John (Jane Corboy) Rogers, of Mosier, Oregon; one foster son, Terry (Glenda) Webster, of Spencer; ten grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren; as well as treasured relatives and longtime friends.
