April 9, 1942 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Services are being held this afternoon Thursday, at Hughes funeral home for Mrs. Julia Diehl, 83, who passed away early Tuesday morning at her home, 532 Grand avenue.

She had been in failing health the past few years. Numerous relatives and friends from a distance are attending the funeral. Her son, George Diehl, arrived Wednesday from Los Angeles, Cal., and a granddaughter, Miss Mary Jane Schlieff came Wednesday night from Washington, D.C. Mrs. Diehl's brother, George Fultz and his daughter are here from Lorimer.

Dr. Edward L. Gibson, pastor of Lakeside Presbyterian church conducting the service. Mrs. Morton Hughes sings "Crossing the Bar." A quartet composed of Wanda Coulson, Elizabeth Coffin, Don Price, and Don Jones are singing, "Wonderful Peace." Mrs. F.W. Rulifson presides at the piano. Bearers are: Carl Sanderman, Walter Luhmann, Kenneth Wilson, Lawrence Geisinger, Fred Crowley, and George Mack. Burial will be in the Lakeview cemetery beside her husband.

Julia Fultz, daughter of John and Caroline Fultz, was born in Rossville, Allamakee county, on March 1, 1860. She taught in Sac county for a short time. She was united in marriage to Zuriel Diehl on Feb. 26, 1880. The wedding took place at the home of her uncle in Hayes township.

To this union seven children were born, one dying in infancy. The others are: Mrs. John Shevel, Storm Lake; Mrs. George Schlieff, Sac City; Ralph Diehl, Storm Lake; Clinton Diehl, Cherokee; George, Los Angeles, Cal.; and Fidelia, Storm Lake.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Diehl resided on a farm south of Alta for a year. They then purchased a farm in Hayes township where they moved and lived until 1906. At that time Mr. Diehl retired and they moved into Storm Lake. Mr. Diehl preceded his wife in death on March 12, 1935. Mrs. Diehl united with the church when a young girl. She was a member of the Pilgrim Missionary society for many years. She also belonged to the Service Star Mothers.

Besides her sons and daughters, Mrs. Diehl leaves to mourn 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Ira Canon of Hayes township and a brother, George Fultz of Lorimer as well as numerous other relatives and countless friends.
