March 5, 1909 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Joshua DeMuth was born in Frederick county, Maryland Feb 28, 1821. In 1851 he moved to Davenport, Iowa and in the course of the same year came to Cedar Rapids and from there to Shellsberg, where he remained until 1882, when he came to Buena Vista county and bought a farm four miles west of Storm Lake. After one years residence on the farm he became a citizen of Storm Lake.
He was married to Louisa Wegel in Frederick County, Maryland May 8, 1843 with whom he lived in the marital relation until her death, Jan 27, 1887.
Four children were born to them, Francis dying at the age of 23 and William at the age of 24 years, while Mrs Margaret A Corbet and Mrs Mary E Inman survive the father.
He was united in marriage to Miss Delilah Matthews on March 11, 1888 in Hagerstown, MD and she continued to be his loving wife until his death. Joshua Demuth joined the Methodist Episcopal church some 20 years ago and ever since has been a loyal member and attended services as long as his condition permitted him. He was always a kind and loving husband and father.
For two years past he had been ailing but became dangerously ill some 2 weeks ago and gave up the struggle 15 minutes after 12 a.m. March 2, 1909.
He leaves his widow, his two daughters, a brother, Jeremiah of Maryland, and a sister Mrs Margaret Stultz of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. Interment was made at the Storm Lake cemetery.
Relatives and friends from out of town resent at the funeral were: Mrs Eugene Tool and Mrs E Kuhn of Murdock, Neb; and Mr and Mrs Charles Gibben of Schaller.
