September 30, 1904 - Storm Lake Buena Vista Vidette - The many friends of Mrs. Edward DeLand, who has for some time lived at Sioux City, but who for years made her home in Storm Lake, were shocked and grieved when it became known that she had died very suddenly at the home of her son W.B. DeLand in Alvin, Texas, whither she had gone a short time before with Mr. DeLand.

When she retired Saturday night she felt as well as usual, but about four o'clock Sunday morning she awoke in some pain but she was able to get up and awaken Mr. DeLand, to whom she said that she was ill. She did not think her condition at all serious but in a very short time, and in fact before a physician could be called, she expired in the arms of her husband.

Elizabeth McCloud was born at Plain City, Madison county, Ohio, October 4, 1832 where she lived with her parents until her marriage. She was married to Edward DeLand July 5, l853, and with him removed to Clinton, IL, in November 1859, where they resided until March 1877, when they came to Storm Lake, Iowa, and lived here until October l891, at which time they moved to Sioux City, Iowa, and lived there until the first of the present month when they sold their home and went to the sunny south in hopes to find in that milder climate a more pleasant home in which to enjoy the remaining years of their lives.

There were born to them seven sons, four of whom preceded and were waiting to welcome her on the other shore.

She leaves surviving, her husband and three sons: C.E. residing at Gainesville, Fla., W.B. residing at Alvin, Texas, and James of Storm Lake.

She joined the First Universalist church of Storm Lake, Iowa, July 3, 1881, she enjoyed her religion and lived and died in the comfort of the broader faith in the universal fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man.

She, with her husband, were visiting at the home of their son W.B. where she passed away Sunday morning, September 25, 1904, at 6:15 a.m. The remains were brought to this city Wednesday morning and the funeral was held from the home of James DeLand that afternoon. The services were conducted by the Rev. J.D.O. Powers of Sioux City and interment was made in the Storm Lake cemetery.

Mrs. DeLand was well known in this city where she lived so long, and was greatly beloved by all. The Vidette joins in extending sympathy to the sorrowing family and friends.
