Justice Aikin passed away at 4:30 Monday afternoon at the Swallum hospital where he had been ill for some weeks. Impressive funeral services were held at 3:30.

The following obituary was prepared by the family:
Obituary - Charles Fremont Aikin, son of Diana Dorward and Dr. Shadrach Andrew Aikin, was born in a log cabin on a farm near Pella, Marion county, Iowa, 79 years ago Oct. 1, the fifth child of a family of four sons and five daughters. His father was a pioneer doctor among the rural folks of the community, the family experiencing the hardships of the primitive life of the prairies of Iowa.

All members of that family have preceded him in death but one sister, Mrs. Belle Montgomery of Oskaloosa. The Aikin children were all musical and often formed a double quartet with one sister at the organ. The selections sung at the funeral service were old favorites of Mr. Aikin.

He attended high school in Pella, later studying telegraphy and working for the railroad a short time. He studied law in the office of the late Judge S.P. Prouty of Pella and Des Moines and graduated from the law department of Drake university in 1884.

He started his practice of law in Milford where he met and married Alice L. Illias. Three daughters were born to them, Nettie May and Birdie Illias, twins, and Hattie Fay, the latter of whom died at the age of 11 years. They moved to Storm Lake 64 years ago.

He has been in active business until February of this year. He was a Justice of the peace for over 50 years and a Mason and Odd Fellow for many years, having been sent to the Grand Encampment as representing, the I.O.O.P. lodge consecutively many times until of recent years.

Four grandsons, P. Aikin Tymeson, Lloyd A., Claire W., and Herbert H, all of Storm Lake, and sons of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Tymeson survive him as well as his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Tymeson, and Miss Nettie May.

Among those from out of town at the service were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Brewster, Sheldon; J.E. Illias, Cherokee; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Soltow, Sac City; Miss Deva Soltow, Fort Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Nutter, Mrs. Floyd Howard, Mrs. Edmond Nutter and Mrs. Arnold Koeppen, all of Jolley.
