Mildred “Millie” Anderson
January 26, 1924 - August 17, 2011

Mildred “Millie’’ Anderson, 87, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at Careage of Fort Dodge.

A daughter of John Paul and Nellie (Erickson) Anderson, Millie was born on January 26, 1924, on the family farm near Albert City, Iowa. She was raised in the home of her grandparents near there. She spoke often of her deep love and respect for her father, Paul. In high school, she loved music and basketball. After graduating from Albert City High School, she spent two years at the Evangelical Free Church Bible School in Chicago before completing nurse’s training at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis. Next, she worked in a mission’s hospital in Kentucky, spent a year with God’s Invasion Army, worked a few years as an office nurse for Dr. Bruce in Ft. Dodge, and then settled into what is now Trinity Regional Hospital. After working there a few years as a scrub nurse, she became the surgery supervisor, a position she held for the next twenty-seven years.

As a ten-year-old, Millie started her walk with God by putting her trust in Jesus who died for her and in His resurrection to give her eternal life. She faithfully loved and served God during her lifetime. Her ministry of love included sharing the Gospel with young people, giving testimony as a public speaker, baking, hosting overnight guests in her home, cooking fabulous meals for friends, directing the church choir, playing the organ, and just loving people. At age 81, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of producing her own cookbook entitled A Burst of Joy.

Loved by 100s of friends across the country, Millie seemed to have friends in every state! Those thankful for having shared in her life include her nieces and nephews, Roger and Rosie, Lanny and Cathleen, Kevin and Lori, Debby and Randy, Carolyn and Dennis, Byron and Pamela, Kathy and Steve, Darwin and Darlis, Shurmaine and Bill, Sandy and Walt, and Dan and Rene; twenty-six great nieces and nephews; and thirteen great-great nieces and nephews.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Pauline Johnson; three brothers, Emery, Wesley and Junior; and her nephew, Lanny Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at the First Evangelical Free Church with Pastors Al Lewis and Scott Hatton officiating. Interment will follow in the Albert City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Tuesday, at the church. The Bruce-Graham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
