Merle H. Bean
January 14, 1917 - July 14, 1971

Merle Holland Bean, a son of George and Lillian Bean, was born on January 14, 1917, at Auburn and passed away on July 14, 1971, at the age of 54 years.

He attended rural school in the Lake City area. After moving with his parents in 1930 to a farm southwest of Laurens, he attended and graduated from the public schools.

On November 27, 1942, he married Ruth Anderson of Albert City. One son, Merlynn Bean, of rural Marathon, was born to their union. After beginning their farming career in the Terril community, they moved to Ruth's home place near rural Albert City in 1945 where they have since resided.

Farm Groups

Although he had belonged to the Methodist churches in both Laurens and Terril, Merle joined the Evangelical Free church at Albert City. In addition, to serving as trustee and Sunday school secretary-treasurer, he held offices in the Layman's Fellowship. Moreover, he served on the Albert City School Board and the Agriculture Stabilization Committee, and he worked with the Farm Bureau and the Buena Vista County Pork Producers.

Merle was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother, Morris. His survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Albert City; his son, Merlynn, and his daughter-in-law, Andrea, of Marathon; one brother, Ralph Bean, of Council Bluffs; two sisters, Phyllis (Mrs. Erwin Geisking), of Red Oak, and Ina Belle (Mrs. Don Christensen), of Yuba City, California; thirteen nieces and nephews; as well as by many friends and neighbors.

Services were held on July 17, 1971, at the Evangelical Free church with Pastor Arthur Olson officiating. Mrs. Arland Bloom served as organist, and music was provided by Mrs. Dean Sundblad, Mrs. Keith Sundblad, and Mrs. Howard DeYoung. Flowers were tended by Mrs. Carl Kindwall and Mrs. Wesley Anderson. Attendants [were illegible Lindgren?], Darwin Johnson, Karl Sundblad, Clarence Bloom, Virgil Anderson, and Lawrence Anderson. Interment was in the Fairfield cemetery. The Nelson funeral home handled the arrangements.
