Betty Mae Laursen
May 18, 1923 - February 2, 2016Betty Mae Laursen, of Peterson, Iowa, passed away at the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia, Iowa, on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at the age of 92.
Betty married Elvin Laursen on April 21, 1943, at St. John's United Church of Christ south of Peterson where she was a lifelong member. They farmed first in Spring Township and later moved to a farm in Brooke Township in the spring of 1954. After Elvin passed away on July 15, 1979, Betty continued to live on the farm until May of 1988 when she moved into Peterson.
An active member of St. John's Church, Betty served as a Sunday school teacher and Women's Fellowship officer for many years. She, also, enjoyed her membership in the Neighborhood Birthday Club, the 500 Club, the Legion Auxiliary, the women's cards club, the Tuesday Club, and the G.F.W.C. Most of all, however, she liked her vegetable and flower garden. Indeed, she thoroughly enjoyed raising flowers and vegetables. Moreover, she loved any and all time spent with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elvin; three sisters: Luella Nothwehr, Helen Sump Judson, and Ora Honsbruch; and two brothers: Alfred and Christ Edward Felten.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Roger (Jean) Laursen, Eileen (Eugene) Pickhinke, Bruce (Deb) Laursen, and Lynn (Janet) Laursen; her grandchildren: Brian Pickhinke, and his fiancée, Kari Thompson, Karl (Jennifer) Laursen, Tammy (Matt) Hansen, Kristine (Bart) Soliday, Jill (Dave) Schoenherr, Justin (Annie) Laursen, Taryn (Nick) Kestel, Christopher Laursen, Heidi (Gary) Schultes, Jacob (Brenna Trouten) Laursen, Elizabeth (Andrew) Perry, and Erin Laursen and Evan Laursen; twenty great grandchildren with one on the way; five sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M,, Saturday, February 6, 2016, at St. John's Church in Rural Peterson, Iowa, Pastor Michael Hyde officiating.
CASKET BEARERS: Karl Laursen, Brian Pickhinke, Jacob Laursen, Justin Laursen, Evan Laursen, Dean Felten, and Christopher Laursen.
HONORARY BEARERS: Tammy Hansen, Kristine Soliday, Jill Schoenherr, Taryn Kestel, Heidi Schultes, Elizabeth Perry, and Erin Laursen.
VISITATION: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 5, 2016 with the family present at the Warner Funeral Home in Peterson.
MUSIC: "Whispering Hope," "Beyond The Sunset," "The Old Rugged Cross," "How Great Thou Art" by The Congregation.
ORGANIST: Gloria Terrell.
INTERMENT: St. John's Cemetery, Rural Peterson, Iowa.
