Dorus Johnson
August 10, 1904 - March 14, 1997Dorus Anna Berdina Nelson, a daughter of Olof and Sigri (Benna) Nelson, was born on August 10, 1904, at Albert City. Having spent all of her early years in Albert City, she, of course, attended and graduated from Albert City High School.
A lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City, she was baptized there on September 7, 1904, and confirmed there as well on June 27, 1920. In addition, she served her church as a member of the Ladies Aid Society, the Chrismon Committee, and as a Sunday school teacher. She served her community as a member of the Park Board for twenty-five years and of the Legion Auxiliary. She, also, worked at the Pleasant View Home for sixteen years and was a member of the Homecraft Club, the Young at Heart Club, the Community Club, and the Historical Society.
On March 3, 1926, Dorus married Ernest L. Johnson at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. To their union, one daughter, Colette, was born.
Dorus’ hobbies included working with flowers, baking, and having coffee with her friends.
Dorus died suddenly on Friday, March 14, 1997, at the Trinity Regional Center in Fort Dodge. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers.
Survivors include her daughter, Colette, and her husband, Karl Lovin, of Albert City; one sister, Mrs. R.H. Vogel, of Hampton; three grandsons, Gregg, and his wife, Naomi Lovin, of Nevada, Iowa, and Linn, and his wife, Sue Lovin, and Scott, and his wife, Doris Lovin, all of Albert City; and ten great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Dorus Anna Berdina Johnson of Albert City,will be held on March 18, 1997, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City, Pastor Marvin Robeck officiating. The Sliefert Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
