Jim Hartman, age 78, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, in Mesa.

James Roy Hartman, a son of Roy and Irma (Marrington) Hartman, was born on July 7, 1937, in Sac City, Iowa. Baptized into the Methodist faith, he attended country school, and later graduated from Sulphur Springs High School.

On April 4, 1958, Jim joined the United States Army. He served his country during peacetime and was honorably discharged on March 24, 1960.

Jim married Janet Demers on May 28, 1960, in Storm Lake. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children: Keith, Mark, and Marvin.

A proud farmer for most of his life, Jim enjoyed fishing and playing pool and cards in his spare time. In addition, he and Janet enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Arizona.

After Janet’s passing, Jim remarried in 2000 to Gail. He continued to travel and winter in Arizona and even picked up tennis.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Gail Hartman, of Mesa, Arizona, and her family; Jim’s children: Keith (Connie) Hartman, of Nemaha, Iowa, Mark (Laura) Hartman, of Dawsonville, Georgia, and Marvin (Bernita) Hartman, of Lakeside, Iowa; his grandchildren: Blake, Chrissie, Cory, Elizabeth, Jason, Jennifer, and Steven Hartman; fourteen great grandchildren; and his sisters-in-law: Joan (Dale) Martin and Delphine Demers, all of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Louis and Margaret Demers; his first wife, Janet; and his brothers-in-law, Louis and Duane Demers.

Visitation will take place Sunday, December 20, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. A private graveside service will be held at the Schaller Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
