Marlene Matilda Lenz
December 21, 1943 - October 18, 2015Marlene Matilda Lenz, a daughter of Carl and Madeline (Koewler) Lenz, was born on December 21, 1943, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Growing up, she lived first on a farm near Early, second at Linn Grove through early grade school, third at Rossie until high school, and finally at Spencer, graduating from Spencer High School in 1962. After completing high school, she attended NBT Business College in Sioux City. Then, she worked in the business office at a nursing home. After that experience, she moved to the Twin Cities where she worked first at a law office and then at the Contel Phone Company until 1999. Next, she took a job at TGF Bank where she remained until she retired.
For fun, she attended clown school and became a clown named Prism. She enjoyed creating greeting cards, knitting, crocheting, cooking, reading books, traveling, and doing crafts. She loved her animals, Ziggy, the rabbit, and Jack, the cat. Moreover, she cherished time with her nieces and nephews, spending many hours with them.
Marlene passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015, at the age of 71 at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Patricia Graff.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters: Rosemary Kirby, of Omaha, Nebraska, Marjorie Madsen, of Omaha, Nebraska, Bonnie Madsen, of Rembrandt, Iowa, Janice Wiemers, of Spencer, Iowa, Sylvia Lenz, of Clive, Iowa, and Betty Jo Ellis (Rick), of Keller, Texas; her brothers: Carl "Bill" Lenz, Jr. (Margaret), of Onawa, Iowa, and Don Lenz, of Cherokee, Iowa; and her brother-in-law, Joe Graff, of Spencer, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
SERVICES: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Spencer, Iowa, Father Tom Flanagan officiating.
CASKET BEARERS: Tom Clingan, Jim Lenz, Eddie Madsen, Roger Madsen, Pat Madsen, Randy Wiemers. Honorary Casket Bearers: Walt Maley, Jeff Westlund, Bob Lenz
VISITATION: Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00, Wednesday evening, at the Warner Funeral Home beginning with a recitation of the rosary at 5:00 p.m.
MUSIC: Organist - Marianne Fuchsen, Cantor - Elli Wiemers, Hymns - "Ave Maria," "Amazing Grace," "Hosea," "Hail Mary Gentle Woman," "Here I Am, Lord"
INTERMENT: Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, Iowa
