William G. “Bill” Carnine passed away unexpectedly on October 28, 2015, at the age of 58.

Bill was born on December 14, 1956, in Waukon, Iowa, to James and Margaret (Stehr) Carnine. He grew up near New Albin, Iowa, where he attended elementary school. In 1967, Bill and his family relocated to Storm Lake, Iowa, where he continued his education. On April 24, 1975, he enlisted in the United States Army. Assigned to Active Duty, he was stationed in Germany for three of those years and honorably discharged on November 15, 1979.

After his service to his country, Bill returned home to Storm Lake, Iowa, and began working at Ernie’s Feed and Field. Then, he met Kim Ehler, the love of his life. They married on June 21, 1980, at the Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church of Holstein, Iowa.

In the early 1980s, Bill started his career in power line construction and with Nelson Electric. During this time, he and Kim made their home in Storm Lake, Iowa, where they were blessed with a son, Billy.

While working for Nelson Electric in Darlington, Wisconsin, Bill was offered an opportunity to work for Grant Lafayette, REC. He, then, worked away from home until 1990 when the family moved to Ida Grove, Iowa. There, Bill went to work for North West REC until he retired in 2011.

Bill enjoyed staying busy. He, also, started driving semi, hauling recycling for Holstein Sanitation, a job he kept up to the present day.

On September 5, 2000, Bill was elected to the Ida Grove City Council. Still serving as a councilman, he was, currently, standing for re-election. He was a member of the McNamara - Moore Post No. 61, the American Legion, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. In addition, he was a retired Ida Grove Fire Fighter. He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, tinkering in the garage, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his kindness and his willingness to always lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret Carnine, an infant sister, Dawn Carnine, and a sister-in-law, Deb Carnine.

Those left to cherish Bill’s memory include his loving wife of 35 years, Kim Carnine, of Ida Grove, Iowa; his son, Billy (Laura) Carnine, of Arthur, Iowa; his brother, Clark Carnine, of Ida Grove, Iowa; his sister, Zona (Brad) Wetherell, of Merrill, Iowa; his brothers-in-law, Dave (Judy) Ehler, of Holstein, Iowa, and Dan (Mindy) Ehler, of Laurie, Missouri; and his sisters-in-law, Terri (John) Georg, of Holstein, Iowa, and Suzie (Scott) Hurley, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 7, 2015, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa, with the Reverend Richard A. Salcido officiating. Military Rites will be conducted at the Church by the McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion of Ida Grove, Iowa. Private Family Inurnment will follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa.
