Garnet Adams
January 28, 1930 - October 30, 2015Garnet Adams, 85, of Bridge City, Texas, and formerly of Newell, Iowa, passed from this life to her eternal home on Friday, October 30, 2015, at her daughter’s home in Bridge City.
One of twelve children born to William Howard and Lillian Victoria (Thornton) King, Garnet was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa, on January 28, 1930. On December 13, 1947, she married Frank Adams. They lived most of their married life in the Storm Lake and Newell, Iowa, area.
For twenty-five years, Garnet worked in the newborn nursery at the Buena Vista County hospital in Storm Lake. During that time, she was able to admit three of her own grandchildren to that nursery. Later, she worked in the physical therapy department. She retired in 1992 to spend more time with the love of her life, Frank, who passed away on November 9, 2000. Following her first husband’s death, she married Ron Craig in Storm Lake on October 1, 2004. Ron passed away on August 22, 2015.
Very active in the Storm Lake First Baptist Church for sixty years, Garnet held every office in the church. With many friends there, she loved her church family. Moreover, she treasured her faith and developed a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ which she, also, instilled in her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and both of her husbands; her great grandson, Ashton LeBert; her brothers, Howard, Cecil, and Kenneth King; and her sisters, Iotha Baker, Rosetta Myer, Irene Munden, Kathleen Boitnott, Donna Studer, and Virginia Fokken.
Garnet is survived by her children, Vicki Lynn Anderson, and her spouse, Yvonne Callaghan, of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, Tracy Jim Adams, and his wife, Becky, of Dundas, Minnesota, Michael Lyn Adams, and his wife, Ronda, of Bridge City, Texas, and Sandra Lee Strandberg, and her husband, Rich, also of Bridge City, Texas; her brother, James King, and his wife, Sharon; and her sister, Dixie Vesey, and her husband, Everett; her loving grandchildren honored to serve as pallbearers: Casey and Joshua Adams; Jacob and Justin Anderson; Ryan Gustafson, Brooke LeBert; Emily Menard; Adam Strandberg; and Kirsten Trautman; and eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2015, in the chapel of the Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, Bud Davis officiating with music led by Michael Rodriguez. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Additional funeral services will, then, be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 12:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake. Interment will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
