Bonnie M. Eckerman, age 84, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, October 2, 2015, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bonnie Marie Miller, a daughter of Elmer and Marie (Raymond) Miller, was born on June 11, 1931, in Cherokee, Iowa. Baptized into and later confirmed in the Catholic faith, she attended country school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Schaller High School in 1949.

On November 8, 1950, Bonnie married Romane Eckerman, a son of Elmer and Pearl Eckerman, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Schaller, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Rick, Curt, Deb, and Jean.

A former member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Holstein, she served there as a CCD teacher for over twenty years. Then, she transferred her membership to St. Mary’s Catholic Church after moving to Storm Lake. A very faithful woman, she was, always, willing to volunteer at church.

Bonnie found one of greatest joys in life in her children. She loved knitting and crocheting for family members, especially blankets for her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing board games and cards with her grandchildren, but also became a great caretaker as her mother grew older. She will be remembered for her wonderful cooking and baking skills and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters: Deb Leith, of Urbandale, Iowa, and Jean (Jeff) Chindlund, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Andrew and Sarah Chindlund; Erin and Kelli Eckerman; Hanna Finney; Lori (Josh) Griffith; Mike Leith (fiancée, Tracy); Kristi Meyer; and Traci (Jason) Osborne; eleven great grandchildren; her brother, Elmer (Vivian) Miller, of Prescott, Arizona; her sister, Darlene (Don) Saathoff, of Baxter, Minnesota; her brother-in-law, Tom (Sharon) Eckerman; and her sister-in-law, Mary Jo Eckerman; as well as extended family members and many friends.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law; her husband, Romane; two sons, Rick and Curt; and a son-in-law, Bill Leith.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Holstein, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Holstein. Visitation will take place Tuesday, October 6, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
