December 29, 1905 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - William Miller, whose death was chronicled in this newspaper last week, was born at Repatanee Hill, Parish of Cummertrees, Dumfrieshire, Scotland, Sept 24, 1834.

He came to Canada with his parents on a sailing vessel when 4 years of age and settled in Pickering township, Ontario, where his father and brothers always lived and were prominent in agriculture and stock raising. He went back to Scotland when about 18 years of age and in a year or two returned with an importation of stock for his father. He continued in the stock raising and importing of pure bred stock until 1877 when he removed his family to Virginia, where he engaged in the export beef trade.

In 1880 he returned to Canada where he farmed until 1886, and on April 1 of that year he came to Storm Lake, Iowa and settled on the Lakeside farm, then the property of Luther Adams and made several importations of Shorthorns for Mr Adams. In 1889 Mr Sherley of Louisville, KY. bought the Lakeside farm and later sold an interest to Mr Miller, finally selling the farm to him in 1898, where he continued to live until his death on Dec 21, 1905, after an illness of nearly 5 years.

His remains were taken to Claremont, Ontario by his daughter, Mary and son-in-law, L.H. Lamar, leaving Friday night. Burial will be made in the family lot in the old cemetery of St Johns near Claremont, Ontario.

Mr Miller leaves besides his wife, four children: John A of Phoenix, British Columbia; Elizabeth A, Mary S and Mrs L.H. Lamar of Storm Lake, Iowa.
